About ‘Edge of the Bush’

Fire at Sunrise

The ‘Edge of the Bush’ describes meeting places between Nations and worlds. Old-time protocol in Ojibwe Territory requires that you light a small fire at the ‘edge of the bush’ before entering another nation’s territory. Gathering in a Circle around that kind invitation can be a first step towards (re)establishing and maintaining respectful relationships (TRC, 2015, p.6) between Nations in this territory. This website and this company represent a renewal of these traditional protocols.
